Ballaghkeen N.S. opened it’s doors for the first time back in September 1973, and since then, it has undergone quite a few changes.
The school underwent its first major change in 1998, when a fifth mainstream classroom was added to accommodate the growing number of pupils in our school. This was followed by further extensions in 2013 and 2017. The first of these saw another mainstream classroom being added, along with the secretary's office. A corridor servicing all the classrooms was also installed during this time of expansion. The third and final extension saw the footprint of our school increase even further with the addition of two more state of the art mainstream classrooms, along with a staff room and toilet areas.
We are in a very fortunate position in Ballaghkeene N.S. in terms of the facilities we possess. Not to mention our full size Cumann na mBunscoil playing pitch at the rear of the school. What we now have is testament to the vision, purpose and hard work of the numerous people that have sat on our Boards of Management over the years, along with the dedicated members of staff we have had throughout the years.
Parents have always played a pivotal role in the development of our school, whether in its earliest form as the book rental committee, or in more recent times, as our highly motivated Parents' Association. Little of what we now have would have been achievable without the input of any of these stakeholders. Our vision today remains the same to that of what it was back in 1973 - to provide the best possible educational and learning experience to the pupils of Ballaghkeene N.S.
